Jungle Trekking is a wonderful experience in the areas around the reserve forest and along the various hill tracks. Corbett Tiger Den Resort offers a magnificent trekking from late autumn to spring, covers virtually the whole year including winter.
A lure for adventurers and hard-nerved buffs, trekking is a temptation in offing at Corbett. Kumeria to Nainital is a scenic and moderate level trek with altitudinal variation of 450 m to 2,500 m, which again throws in lot of scope for ornithological paradise. Beside the feathery creatures mammals are also found on these difficult trails.
A diverse trek through oak and pine jungles, colonial-styled stop houses, rivers, shallow streams, icy-Himalayan pinnacles, home stays, Mahseer conservation programme and beyond as well as now-here-now-there glance of rich biodiversity and wild lives. A good option for kids and family, trekking at Corbett is best enjoyed during the winters.
Tips : Don’t venture in the trekking, all alone or with kids by your side. Hire all-knowing guides or a naturalist of Corbett National Park for safe and exciting trek jaunt.
Day 01 : Kumeria Time Taken : 05 - 07 hours
Begin at Kumeria where a suspension bridge over river Kosi leads to Kumkhet. From here onwards the next destination is Okhaldunga (9 km/ 3 hr) where one can halt for lunch too. Hereafter, at village Kiari, surge ahead for taxi or cab if time is important and takes a taxi to Okhaldunga. Few hours later after Okhaldunga walk on the new road that connects to Betalghat. The camping area arrives after 2-3 hrs at Bawas, above the Kosi area. It is quiet a good area for camping by the side of river or under the open fields.
Day 02 : Bawas to Mona

Beginning from Bawas, the path turns toward the narrow valley and is a tough footslog up to the Mona through the impenetrable lantana bushes. Although the trek is quiet tiring, the pack horses might provide a good interlude for some breathy intervals and kibosh. As the trek is the only access for all the villages, the horses are the means of material supply here. The village Mona is excellent for camping and stays.
Day 03 : Akashkhanda
Time Taken : 02 - 04 hours
Level : Varies between moderate and difficult
Commencing from Akashkhanda, you need to cross the bridge and climb the pony-dunged hills. Either the steep contours or the climbs directly behind the houses can be chosen too. After a short trek you arrive at Akashkhanda Forest Rest House. Visit the rustic old glory of Forest Rest House at Akashkhanda and on spectacular days you can see Nanda Ghunti and Trishul Peaks.
Day 04 : Akashkhanda - Kunjkharak

Level : Varies between moderate and difficult
Eastward from Akashkhanda, the track mean ders through great dense forest of pine, oak and chestnut. There are carpets of red rhododendrons and riots of red welcoming you all over the trails. Birds and Leopard pugmarks are burnished chances. Halfway through, you come across streams and mountains and oak trees. Stop for lunch near Kunjkharak and thereon wards move to Harinagar. Walk past the school buildings, homes, pastures, meadow etc. Uphill, there is sharp climb, which is a short cut to Kunjkharak.
Day 05 : Kunjkharak-Vinayak

Level : Easy
The previous day trek deposits you on the jeepable road just before you took the Forest Rest House. From Kunjkharak, take a north contour, almost 16 km to the motorable road. Hardly, a km away from Kunjkharak, there is a clear 380 degrees view of Himalayan ranges. Besides the walk on moss Jhoola way, there are de-escalating sights of Ramnagar, Haldwani and Forest Bungalow. Rest in the enchanting forest bungalow at Vinayak.
Day 06 :
Vinayak - Pathariya
Time Taken : 04 - 05 hours
Level : Easy
Hike to the tallest and audacious ridge of Vinayak. Tear ahead through the finest patch of cedar forest, and stunning Himalayan view. The main road lies on Sigri. From here, 3 kms away, reach hamlet of Guhugu Khan, from where you can move of Pangot (2,150 m).Move to Naina Peak and Cheena Peak from here. Then take a trail to right, heading downhill to the campsite of Pathariya, the magical spot. |
